Background

Sneak (Strong Role)

What lead to this being your main skill set?

Natural extension of powers granted by ritual. Darkness can be useful for killing or disposing a body, but only temporarily. Better all around if no one ever knows you were there.

Did you plan to be good at this, or did you plan for something else and life took a different turn?

I planned to be dead before 20. PLF / The Network discourage long-term life planning in their recruits, instilling instead the idea that you give yourself to the cause and do what is needed.

What one or two key events in your life featured this Role (whether you were good at it then or needed to be but wasn’t)?

Planned and executed a covert intrusion into the White House with no alarms raised in order to allow a team to gain access to the President (later discovered to be part of an assassination plot).

Infiltrated the Antwerp Diamond Exchange. Went undetected for 3 minutes in the vault before forced to exit. Infiltration never reported by any world media, and never appeared in Exchange insurance documentation. Estimated yield 4.7M in US dollars. Solo job.

Alertness (Strong Attribute)

What lead to this being important to you?

Seeing and being seen means everything. You cannot fight what you cannot see. You cannot catch what you cannot see. You cannot steal what you cannot see.

Were you always this good, or did you have to work for it?

Was always good, but became the best. A warzone like Palestine is an excellent training ground for these skills. You learn where you should be, and where you shouldn't, or you will die.

What one or two key events in your life featured this Attribute (whether you were good at it then or needed to be but wasn’t)?

Almost killed by Frank Castle (alias Punisher) in Miami. Running job on smugglers out of Cuba (mostly luxuries, some guns / drugs / explosives). Heard Punisher was after them, and figured I was good enough to get in and out ahead of him. Castle blew up the freighter 10 seconds after I walked off the deck. Spent the next 3 days ducking him. He assumed I was a buyer, but when he inevitably found out who I really was, I think he just saw it as a challenge. Escaped 3 kill attempts in a week (one sniper shot, one C4 in my rental car, one straightforward gun fight in a movie theater). I had underestimated him badly and ignored too many warning signs. Laid low for six months so he wouldn't find me.

Strength (Weak Attribute)

Was this always a weakness, or did something happen in the past to make it a weakness?

Was never particularly strong. After joining PLF / The Network, was never an emphasis for my training or responsibilities. Leave the heavy lifting to the meatheads.

What situation seems to come up where this gets in the way?

Answer

Arcane (Distinction)

When did this Distinction become a part of your life?

Age ~18. Involved in a ritual designed to infuse 5 individuals with great power. Sole survivor.

How has it come to help you out, salvage an operation going bad, or even save your life?

Manipulates darkness to mask presence, obstruct vision, allow easier movement.

How has it complicated your life?

If used carelessly, can be traced like a fingerprint or trademark.

Audacious (Distinction)

When did this Distinction become a part of your life?

During my later years with The Network, I began to see that I was indispensable. Operations were make-or-break almost entirely dependent on my performance or involvement. My ego truly boomed when I was offered a place in the Society of Shadows, an organization of mythological proportions. Although I never joined the Society, it was not due to deficiency in skill, and the knowledge that I could have joined -- and been extremely successful and valuable to them -- has never been forgotten.

How has it come to help you out, salvage an operation going bad, or even save your life?

Robbed a bank in Dubai based almost entirely on my own certainty that I could. If you know you have a 3 second gap in camera coverage, and during that 3 seconds you must close a 30 foot gap without being seen by the guard on patrol, you have to know that when you step out, you WILL make it. If you take the first step and second-guess yourself, you will be caught.

How has it complicated your life?

I tend to take unnecessary risks, especially when I become comfortable or when I believe a job is already in hand. Some people would describe me as a bit of a showoff.
